Absolute Overpower is a tabletop RPG played using the Marvel Multiverse RPG system. However, in this slice of the Multiverse, the universe of Marvel and DC have merged thanks to a fateful event caused by Reed Richards and his family.
This is modeled after a previous campaign I ran called Marvel Overpower where traditional writers are replaced with DMs who craft plots based on titles (like Avengers, Spider-Man, Black
Panther, etc.), and open up the roles of their favorite Marvel superheroes to players to guide the plot. The shared continuity morphs under the guidance of the various DMs, the players, and their games. The big difference is that characters, teams, and titles are now available from the DC Universe. Batman can now fight Kingpin on the streets of Gotham. Green Lantern can join the Nova Corps to face Thanos. The Flash can join The Avengers and fight alongside Captain America. John Constantine can chain smoke in Hell until Doctor Strange can fish him out.
Continuity
Continuity is important to any tabletop campaign. The things that happen at the table matter. Always. However, comic continuity is a huge pain. Especially DC Comics who rebuild its continuity every five or so years. So the only continuity important to Absolute Overpower is the continuity that players choose to bring with them and uncover through playing the campaign. The only exception, of course, is the disappearance of the Richards family. Do you love Martian Manhunter but know only the basics of his backstory? Great. That’s all you need! Do you prefer the MCU version of Valkyrie? She rules. Bring her to the table. Do Batman and Daredevil know each other? Only if the players of those characters wish! Characters can even have in their backstory “was an X-Person” and it’s not automatically assumed that they know Cyclops.
In a way, we are taking an Ultimate Marvel or Absolute DC approach to this universe. It’s all fresh and new unless it’s important to the players behind the characters.
